META tags are strings of additional information, which are added inside the <HEAD> area of an HTML document. Since HexWeb XT is specially designed for newspapers and magazines, that continuously publish on the NET, the META tags help to find out information about the articles without having to read the whole story. META information is also used by most search engines for categorizing the content.
HexWeb XT 2.5 has a built-in interface for fast and easy entry of META information. To turn on the user defineable META Tags, go to preferences->HexWeb XT->Meta Tags and check the "Use user defineable Meta Tags" checkbox.
After returning to the export palette, an additional tab appears. Just click the "Meta Tags" tab in the export palette, and you get the META palette.
Here you can define, which META tags are used by your Web site, you can select entries, that remain static in every article, or you can select a META tag to be unique for every article. When selected as unique, the tag name is presented with red colour. This means, thet that entry of that data is mandatory.
To make the entries fast and easy, HexWeb will ask you to enter the mandatory information with this dialog, when you try to export your article:
Just enter the information, and the page will be created.
Here is a sample of the META tags HexWeb XT is automatically generating when you export your articles. This information helps you to use the articles with databases for dynamic page creation.
Most of these tags, such as Year, issue, headline, subheadline, header and footer, are generated automatically from the information in the export palette.
